My Story
My name is Xavier Stevens, and I would love to represent the Orleans-2 District in Montpelier.
I moved around a lot growing up. After growing up in Waterford, my family moved to Barre City for a few years to then move again to Saint Johnsbury so that I could graduate from St. Johnsbury Academy. After graduation I moved to Winooski to attend college at UVM.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematical Sciences with a minor in Computer Science from the University of Vermont. After college I moved to Austin, TX for work in my field and I met my amazing wife. We got engaged and moved to Newport, VT and have spent the last few years enjoying being back in my home state. The move back wasn’t easy, since Vermont has gotten much more expensive and unaffordable since I left. I intend to push through policy to bring back the Vermont I knew, where people weren’t struggling to live and could afford the necessities to survive.
After seeing my neighbors and local farmers get abused by ICE, new unaffordable policies, and cuts to healthcare, I felt I needed to do something. I attended “No Kings”, “Hands Off”, and other protests across Newport, Montpelier and Burlington, before I joined the leadership of the NEK Indivisible Collective (NEKIC). The protests and meetings I have been a part of as leadership have been very insightful and have taught me a lot, but I believe we need to do more.
